DrByte Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 (edited) Thought somebody else might get some use of this technique. I was on my way out of the big box store with oak dowel rods when the thought of these fiberglass driveway markers hit me. They're under 2 bucks each and are approx. 4 feet long. I cut them down to 3 feet for my falling star display this year. I can make about 2 in a short evening. I epoxy two rods and one plexiglas piece as a sub-assembly. I let those set up over night then the next evening combine two of the subs and one more rod together with 3 more plates to make the full star. I put a small dab of epoxy at each rod crossing also. I sanded the rods lightly on the ends to give the epoxy a little better gripping surface also. It is a relatively simple process and they seem plenty strong. They should last forever. I might paint them black but they don't show up much n the dark anyway. Will have at least 7 of these for the falling/shooting star this year. Way cheaper than steel wire-frames and probably about the same weight. I cut the rope at the bottom of the star after the las pic was taken and taped the end. They seem to work fine. Dave Batzdorf Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Yep. Didnt think of those. I do use the green plastic plant stakes for some stuff.
TheUltimate Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 Thank you for the falling stars idea. That is just what I was looking for.
davensj Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 Thanks! This is a great idea. I'm looking to build a star for my CCRs.
NWSanta Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Love it when somebody builds something simple! Nice!
