Public Domain Coro?

Christmas Lawyer

Recommended Posts

I am a newbie and just figured out what 'coro' is ....

I see that one can purchase a coro santa or coro pumpkin for ~ $ 39.99
on a few websites.

Are there any public domain coro designs out there? I would imagine one could
probably print to a wide format printer at Kinko's or something and affix
that image to a large piece of whiteboard or something....heck, even thin plywood....

I'm not trying to be cheap here - I just was wondering if there is a true do it yourself way to do coro this holiday season.....

Thanks,

Tim L.:P

most print shops have sheets of coro...but not cheap...( I paid $72 for 6 pieces 32 x 48)

Home depot has small sizes...like 24 x 32 I believe for around $8

then there is the price to print out a pdf design at a printer (mine were about $8 per 32x46 plot)

I created my pdf star using my CAD software...but not everyone has the software to do that...

then there is the time to poke all the holes in it...

so $39.99 isn't really that bad.... :P

If you attach a projector to your computer you can put the created image directly on the Coro and trace it. Or use simple images from online like coloring book images. I found that a small Philips screwdriver was enough to poke hole in 4mm Coro with no problems. Call around to local sign shops I was able to buy a 48" x 48" sheet for $12 the pre done ones are nicer and not a bad cost and saves time but if you really want the DIY it is possible .

Checked out the holiday coro site, the pricing seems fair (especially for Halloween characters) since you get sequences with them.

I will check signs shops too though and work on my own or download free sequences.

Thanks for the info guys, not my question, but something I was interested in learning about.

Hi Tim, I've tried on my own and I've bought from holidaycoro. Hands down I would order from holidaycoro before trying to do it from scratch. The little bit of money I saved was nothing compared to the aggravation and time that it took me to cut and drill it.
Plus David is here to and a fellow LOR addict.

Searching for 'coroplast' on google I came across http://www.beacongraphics.com They have 36" x 24" for $2.60 (white and you have to buy 10). Not sure of shipping prices yet. I'm thinking of doing simple characters similar to http://www.belardolights.com a snowman, reindeer, myself and possibly my grandson. Drawing the stuff is not an issue for me, I'm just looking for the right supplies/price.

For those of us that live in the Fort Worth area. I just found a company call Port plastic that sells coro 4x8 sheet black or white for 14.50 a sheet. its of 121 between downtown and NE mall.

Group Buy??? :)
I'd think the shipping costs would be very high! Weight per case of 15 on their site is 179 pounds!

there's no way one sheet of coroplastic weighs almost 12 lbs!!!!

Hey Rick & dknahoolewa, I'm in Las Colinas (Irving)! I'm a real noob- starting to buy now for next year's display(s), maybe I can come see your displays this year?

I called a couple of fastsigns places and was quoted $15 for 4x8 white coroplast, said they could also special order colors- didn't ask if it would be higher for that...

I asked this on another topic line, but what size do you all usually make your pieces (characters) 4x4, 4x8, ???

Jim go to their site and click ADD to cart. I just added ONE CASE of 15 to see the costs. It told me the case weighs 179 pounds! I thought that was a bit ludicrous, but then these sheets are NOT true coro in my opinion, they are made out of several plastic recyclable materials, like plastic drink bottles and other plastic recyclables. So there may just be a slight chance those sheets ARE NOT lightweight!
