Maybe after all of the complaints about vbulletin they could be possibly looking at other options

This pretty much sums up both the Chuck Smith and vbulletin complaints.

I'm just posting for the sake of posting.

That is all.

Do you want to call this "Let There Be Peace on The Lor Forum"?

Nope. VB4 is in place at this time and looks and feels just like PC.

Lucky Us or maybe it should be saying Unlucky Us

We have started a new thread in the Coffee Shop to discuss the new website and new forums. We are looking for your feedback on the new sites.
As far as the choice of VB4 software. It was recommended by a number of people and even by some people who are not being critical of the choice. So what we hope to see is some constructive suggestions and if there are different/better ways to use the forum software please let us know.

Thanks
Dan

The drama. This will teach me for taking a break. Can we talk about getting music off youtube again?

Maybe you should start a thread here to "discuss" this. Anybody know a lawyer we could ask? :D

How about Ken Good?

Having run vBulletin in the past I can attest it is a very stable platform, well supported, with lots of options. It is much more robust than the software currently being run here (which isn't being updated anymore), hence the decision (apparently) to change.

We all tend to get comfortable and not want to change the way we do things (myself included!), but change is a fact of of life!

I would say let's go with it, and see how it all works out. After all, if folks can program complex lighting sequences, using LOR software, the learning curve for a different forum will be miniscule in comparison....

Sorry but the request for a lawyer's opinion was purely sarcastic, and maybe an inside joke of sorts (hence the difficult-to-see wink smiley, which by the way are even worse on the new version of vBulletin<--just to keep this post on topic :)). Some here may or may not remember a fairly "heated" discussion/drama on this topic back in January, with repetitive threads to discuss it (after threads kept getting closed due to arguing). This even eventually led to the banning of a certain antagonistic member (the first and only member to be kicked out of the forums). A formal legal opinion regarding the music issue was even obtained in order to attempt to back up this individual's argument. Hence my request for possible legal advice.
Sorry I must have been in a particularly sarcastic mood when I posted that--maybe nobody even made the connection.

Sorry I'm a little late to the party here. I happened to check in on the forum this afternoon looking for info on the summer sale and saw the news of the upcoming changes.

I guess I'm neutral toward moving to vBulletin until I see it in action here (the simplicy of WowBB has always been nice, but I know vBulletin has some cool features this doesn't), but I have to echo some of the sentiment in the original thread. I have to say I'm a bit surprised and bewildered that Chuck Smith is even an employee of Light-o-Rama, given everything that's gone on over the last 7 years at PC. I'm also personally not thrilled that Chuck Smith is an administrator here with access to my personal information.

Dan/John, I was happy to be part of this community again last season after taking a few years off from the Christmas lighting websites, and you know I support LOR wholeheartedly. I'm not going to rehash my untimely exit from PlanetChristmas here, but suffice it to say if Chuck Smith has any editorial control or moderation privileges on this site now or in the future, I will be looking for another LOR support community to join. I'm afraid the censorship of the original thread does not leave a good taste in my mouth.

That's all I'm going to say in public about my past experience with Chuck Smith. If anyone inside or outside of LOR would like any further explanation, please feel free to email me, but do NOT PM me about it. Your PMs on message boards are NOT really personal; any admin (including Chuck) has access to what you send.

Wow a guy takes some time off to fight liberal socialist and the place goes to hell in a hand basket.

The beauty of this forum has always been the free exchange of ideas, information and opinions. We have always been able to push the buttons more here and political correctness has not found it's cancerous way into the discussion.

Since this site is pretty much adults who police themselves then I certainly hope that at least that aspect of this forum remains.

I am going to have knee surgery in mid to late November so I doubt if I will be putting up the lights this year. Currently working with a brace and pain is not bad but stability sucks.

For those of you in the Washington D.C. area, I will once again be a speaker at the march on 9.12.2010 Last year we had over a million people and it was quite the treat.

If you live in the Jacksonville, FL area I will be speaking on Nov. 2nd.

Robin, people like you are well needed in this country.

It's not just Robin who's needed - we all have to step up and take back our country before it's too late. Our kids might be in for some tough times economically, but we need to at least make sure they have a country in which they're still free!

Not wanting to hijack this thread but here are some great places to go and friends that I work closely with.

www.freedomworks.org
www.libertycentral.org

I use to be the FL state coordinator for Tea Party Patriots.

I was asked to be the FL state collaborator for Liberty Central and since Ginni Thomas wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas asked I felt honored and am pleased to be a part of her organization.

There is lots of valuable information on both sites.

One nice thing is that I have been to places from FL to D.C. to Fresno, CA but honestly Christmas has not been on my mind as much as in past years.

Regardless just remember to take the time to vote Nov. 2nd and get involved in your local and state governments as well.

Many times we have had issues concerning our displays with local governments. We are the only ones who can stop that assault.

Please lets focus our energy on creating Christmas Displays! There are plenty of places on the Internet where people can post about volatile topics such as politics and religion but please not here.

This is an old thread that has reached a ripe old age (in forum life). I am going to close it so that it can quietly fade away..
