Ponddude Posted September 9, 2009 Posted September 9, 2009 Am I missing something or does LOR not sell the XLR to RJ45 connector yet? On the DMX document...http://www.lightorama.com/Documents/DMX-DOC.pdf...it says that it is available on the Accessories page, but I can't seem to find it any where in the store. Is it not available yet?
marquisite Posted September 9, 2009 Posted September 9, 2009 Are you looking for this one?http://store.lightorama.com/rjtoxlr3ma.htmlThere's no picture though.I had my own made up at a local DMX shop .. I simply took the wiring diagram into them and they had one posted out to me in a week's time (shipping halfway around the world isn't exactly cheap.)
-klb- Posted September 9, 2009 Posted September 9, 2009 I believe this is it:http://store.lightorama.com/rjtoxlr3ma.htmlSo this is for some project that you are not sequencing in LOR?
tomskillman Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 That is definitely the 3 pin XLR DMX adapter that is needed to run the boards from a DMX lighting console. I bought one a while back - haven't gotten to use it yet. They basically take a 6' network cable and hack it in half. They put a 3 pin male XLR on the cut ends and have 2 adapters from one CAT5 cable.
Ponddude Posted September 10, 2009 Author Posted September 10, 2009 Wow, I really don't know how I missed that. Thanks though!I plan on using the adapter to come out of the iDMX then into a Grinch controller and then into some DCSSR's. Plan on using different color LEDs in my north pole lights and this will control it. However, I need a way of getting the DMX signal from the XLR plug into a cat 5 cable.
-klb- Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 The thing is that the LOR boxes don't use the same pins of the RJ-45 jack that DMX on RJ-45 uses. So that adapter is very specific to go from DMX XLR to a LOR box. You will need an adapter that converts to the pins normally used for DMX on RJ-45.This link was posted in a different thread. I'm not entirely sure if they will use the typical DMX on cat 5 pinout, or if they are intended to be used in pairs to replace expensive DMX cable with Cat5, in which case they might not have bothered to match the normal pinouts.http://www.productionadvantageonline.com/Control-Adapters-Terminators/XLRJ45-3M.aspx
Ponddude Posted September 10, 2009 Author Posted September 10, 2009 Its actually very easy and you don't need that adapter. Between this Wiki post and the information on the DMX doc. provided by LOR, I should be set.http://diylightanimation.com/wiki/index.php?title=Light-O-Rama_ControllersNow for my Grinch to get here:P
