You have a trade off between the extra hassle, and risk of damaging the chip now, vs the risk of it failing during the season, and the extra repair time to get that chip out, a socket in, and a new chip. Steven Posted August 24, 2009 Share Posted August 24, 2009 It's normally in a socket because that's the first chip that will be damaged by a electrical spike on the network wire.
