Channel not turning on once

I ran a test using the motion detector to have some fun with my controllers off season.  I rigged up a setup to detect motion using an old input header on a 1602 connected via USB to a computer and to a  newer one via ELL.  During every test and subsequent use, all of the channels turned on, but the one time it mattered, I found a channel didn't turn on initially before coming on later in the sequence.  Any thoughts?  I'd like to believe this equipment is going to be 100% reliable for the cost.
