CMB24D flashing uncontrollable

Have Alpha Flex Hooking up An LOR controller CMB24D into the DMX port. Made a crossover cable Blue wire to +white/blue to -. I can controll the lights But alot of noncommand flashes . Only on this controller. Same thing when I go to DMX mode(jumpers and reg Cat5 cable) Do I need to add a ground wire ? If so what color?Using Xlights. Should I just go serial
