What is a matrix?

I want to buy a pixel matrix panel to use on a fence. But I do not understand what a matrix is.

Bingo 😛 That is another type of Matrix.

It is just Rows (and columns) of lights, that you chose to control to form images / letters.  You noticed I said Rows. That is be cause we don't  use the Cross-point method to control like old fashioned LED Alpha-Numeric displays did. There the apply a Column voltage and ground a Row line. The intersecting LED lit.
