I have a few triacs out on some older boards and will be working on them this week.  I have a few triacs left I got from Mouser a few years ago but I was wondering if I can safely replace bad ones with the new higher power ones on the gen 3 board.  I am not loading the channels to the limit, most carry less than 2 amps, but I thought maybe the upgrade units were stronger.  The instruction say they are less susceptible to overloads and shorts.  If you got to fix it you might as well make it better.  These boards that have a few failures are from the "dark period" where there were some issues.  I don't care or expect any warranty on them or anything, I can fix them and LOR is still a fantastic company to deal with.  If there is a part number for upgraded triacs, I missed it using the search feature.  Anybody have any info?

Thanks,

Chris

I asked them about triacs last week and here is their list I received back from the awesome help desk-

Thanks for the response.  Those are the same numbers I have now.  I was hoping someone with more knowledge than me might know if the newer triacs used in the gen3 boards might work.  The CTB16PCg3 boards use 25 amp triacs according to the manual.  I think I have only 2 or 3 of those and the rest are older boards.

thanks,

Chris

alchrist01 - I have used the mouser 511-bta24-600bw and had no problems. These are the STMicroelectronics 25Amp versions.

I ordered 20 back in December 2014 and have used 3 so far.

I find it odd that I have had to replace triacs on my CTB16 but never on my 2 1602 controllers.

Thanks for the info. I ordered 10 of the 16amp parts and have not even had time to replace them.

I'm in the same predicament. I have 2 to replace. Fortunately I have a few "spare" channels.
