slim00209
FM transmitter 2.0 popping with reduced range A couple of years ago I bought a FM transmitter 2.0. I was really disappointed with the range that I was receiving, so I constructed a simple dipole antenna. Let me tell you, I had more range than I'd rather tell you about. Fast forward to now, antenna has been in storage for a couple of years due to moves. I busted it out for this years show and I get a popping sound. It's not consistent but it's there. My range has significantly decreased, 50 ft, if I'm lucky. Let me give a little back story. The antenna was constructed of solid copper wire that was soldered into a SO239 adapter that was then connected to RG58 cable (I found the plans on this forum several years ago). I'm not sure if this is right but it worked, and it worked well. The RG58 was "hard wired" onto the board of the transmitter. My original thought was the solder on the antenna may have come loose from being stored, so I built a new one. Still no luck. Popping and no range. When it comes to soldering and boards, I'm below intermediate. I had a friend do it for me the last time. My question is, did the solder from the board come loose? Am I getting some type of interference? I have aluminum siding on my house and I have taken it away from that, electrical and garage door openers. If anyone out there has any knowledge, I would greatly appreciate it.
