canadianchristmas
Hi,This year I have decided to run my controller in DMX mode, my question is what pins do LOR controllers use in their ethernet jacks to receive data? I think it is pins 4-5 but I am unsure and I don't want to do anything until I know for sure. Also can you tell me witch pin is positive (+) and witch negative (-) Thanks
jstorms
To nit pick. LOR controllers have RJ45 jacks, not Ethernet jacks. Just happens Ethernet also uses RJ45 jacks and CAT5 cabling. If you connect your RS485 adapter into an Ethernet device it will get hot and make smoke (I know). LOR uses RS485 (a serial protocol) over CAT5. •LOR uses pins 4 & 5 for data.•LOR pin3 is hot. 10v•LOR pin 6 is ground.•DMX uses pin 1 & 2 for data•DMX pin 7 & 8 is ground. Edit: also I know the jack is not used for ethernet but it is the same style of jack that ethernet uses. Also how is pin3 in LOR 10v? I thought usb ports only could supply 5v? LOR Staff
Thanks for this awesome info! Edit: also I know the jack is not used for ethernet but it is the same style of jack that ethernet uses. Also how is pin3 in LOR 10v? I thought usb ports only could supply 5v? Most LOR controllers supply the 10v accessory power on those pins. The power doesn't come from the USB port - unless you are using a USB485B. If so, it also boosts the voltage to 10v.
EmmienLightFan
The 10v comes from a controller connected to mains voltage and on the LOR network, like the CTB16PC. The of the adapters also has a step up thing that provides 10v from the USB port.
