mattforry
Hey, is there a way you can run LOR controllers directly from a computers Ethernet port?
Don
If you are using the LOR Protocol, then no. (And if you don't know what you are using, you are using the LOR Protocol.) If you were to go E1.31, then you probably could. I'll let the E1.31 folks chime in on that one.
k6ccc
Correct Don, E1.31 operates off of ethernet, and most of the E1.31 controllers can also drive DMX over RS-485. I don't know of any way to use LOR protocol over ethernet.
EmmienLightFan
If you don't know what E1.31 is, don't do it. LOR controllers cannot be controlled from ethernet, without crossover cables and RS485 DMX bridges and crossover cables. Just because they both use the same connector doesn't mean they are the same signal.
jstorms
Remember... CAT5 != Ethernet
a31ford
LOR uses the Serial RS 485 differential protocol on cat 5 cables. there is NO direct interface to switch over as Ethernet is a 4 wire control system and RS 485 is a 2 wire DIFFERENTIAL system. It's Kinda like Gasoline and Diesel.... they simply CANNOT be mixed or interchanged directly.... P.S. and NO, RS 232 is NOT even close to how RS 485 works. Just sayin....
