If you haven't already -- definitely put in a help ticket.  LOR is great at helping.

I'll be the one that gets the ticket.

My solution will be:

Run the Tutorial as outlined in the help file.  Tell me exactly at what point you are having problems.

DevMike:

I followed that guide step by step 4 times reading it on my iPad. I finally printed it at work today, so I will try it again the next chance I get. I will make note of everything I do and put in a help ticket. The only thing I am not certain I've done correctly is synch. That term doesn't appear in anything I've read from LOR but it gets used a lot in the forums.

The syncing part can be found in the help file. open SE>help>index>under visualizer select the topic tutorial.

This will take you STEP BY STEP how to create and play a mock (or real) visualization using a Sequence in SE, the visualizer, and simulation mode. It will also cover the simple steps to "sync" SE and Visualizer. It was the only thing that made it work for me when I first started. Follow these steps and if doesn't work, help ticket and DevMike will hook you up. Here is a sample of the procedure but follow the steps from the beginning of the page:

Running Your First Simulation

Now we need to do a bit of setup so that the Sequence Editor and the Visualizer can "talk" together. You should only need to do this once, and possibly in the future if you do something such as changing computers. The defaults should work, but we should double check them.

Select File / Options from the menu, and then click on the "6. Com/Ref" settings tab. Check that the Communications field is set to "Local", that the IP address reads "127.0.0.1", and that the port is "30303". Press "OK".

Start the Sequence Editor, and load the tutorial test sequence that was included (located in the directory "Sequences\LOR Visualizer Tutorial"). Go to Edit / Preferences / Visualizer Preferences. Ensure that the Host is set to 127 0 0 1, and the port to 30303. The thing to take away from this is that the Visualizer settings and the Sequence Editor settings must match with each other; if the two programs are set up differently, change one or the other so that they match, and then press OK.

Ensure that the Sequence Editor is set up to control the Visualizer: From its Play menu, ensure that the "Control Visualizer" option is checked. If it is not checked, the Sequence Editor will not send any commands to the Visualizer.

Almost there. Unless the Visualizer is placed into Simulation mode, it will ignore all commands from the Sequence Editor. To place the Visualizer into Simulation mode, press the "Play" icon in its toolbar. The Visualizer will then go into Simulation mode, hiding many of its controls and toolbars. It is now ready to accept commands from the Sequence Editor.

Note: Depending upon your operating system and security settings, you may be prompted that the Visualizer was blocked from communicating. If so, you can select "Unblock". If you do not unblock the Visualizer, it will not be able to receive commands from the Sequence Editor. For more information, see the section titled "Simulation and Firewalls".

Now play your sequence in the Sequence Editor (using its Play button on its standard toolbar). If everything is set up correctly, you'll see the lights in your simulation flash on and off. Congratulations!

If you don't see any lights flashing, make sure that you have correctly set up the communications parameters, that you have selected "Control Visualizer" on the Sequence Editor's Play menu, that the Visualizer and the Sequence Editor are both in "play" mode, and that you have wired up your channels correctly. If you see wrong lights flashing, make sure that you have wired your channels properly.

Is the laptop you are using your main PC you use at home?

No. We have 2 PC's that are exclusively dedicated to work, we do most of our day to day stuff on our iPads.

In an earlier post, I saw you asked if you need to have the controllers "programmed in."  If that is what you are asking, then yes, you must have channels assigned to controllers in the visualizer before running a sequence.  You then, should create a channel configuration file in visualizer and load that file into the sequence editor so your channels match.  If you don't have your props assigned to channels, nothing will light up in the visualizer.

If you meant, "do I have to have the controllers wired to the computer?" the answer is "no."

When playing a sequence in visualizer, you must FIRST hit the "play" or "simulate" button in visualizer (keep it open in one window), then go to the sequence editor and click the play button there. If you do this in the wrong order, your visualizer screen will not show your props lighting up.  If the visualizer screen doesn't come to the front when you click play in the editor, click back over to the minimized window that the visualizer is in.  There is also a box to check in the visualizer under "Preferences" that will force the visualizer to the front when you click the play button in the sequence editor.  It saves from having to click back and forth between visualizer and sequence editor.

Hope this helps.

  • 2 weeks later...

I have watched every video and read every tutorial there is and my problems have actually gotten worse. All of the resources that I have gone through show a screen or tell me to select something that I can't find. I know this question is only remotely related to LOR, but can anyone give me some advise on how to set up picture and music files (from iTunes) in a spot that is easily accessible from the visualizer and sequencer? Whenever I try to load either one I have to dig through the bowels of my computer to find them and half the time they won't load. I upgraded to a newer laptop that has windows 8 on it, if you want to call windows 8 an upgrade. Also, I set up a channel configuration in the animation part of the visualizer and am unable to import it to a musical sequence. I'm very sorry that I am such a computer idiot, I've always known just enough to be dangerous. Lastly, how do I get rid of all of the screwed up pictures and sequences I created (and saved in case they turned out). I haven't been able to find a delete option anywhere. Thank you in advance for any help.
