That sounds like a plan for sure! Turns out, one of the three cameras that I bought, is defective...out of focus and wireless dropping in and out. Just sent the email to them to start a return process. I have two up and opertional now so I'm hopefully good.

For the fellow who lost the trees another thing you might want to try is a driveway alert. It is a wireless motion detector that when approached it will beep inside and you know tat someone is out their. If you get a camera all you may get is a picture of someone taking it and still not knowing who it is. I am a security specialist and have dealt with issues like this for last 30yrs plus. The sensor is also nice to have for Halloween time to alert you little ones are coming up the walk.

As far as cameras do go, don't buy from the internet, find yourself a local dealer who knows the crime conditions along with coming out to offer you knowledge of what would be the best way to go. Make sure you know what your budget is, don't by what is called analoge type of camera but more to HD w/ vari-focal lens. The PTZ are not good for in play back you will lose the quality of the picture. With either the HD or IP cameras you are able in play back- drill down (zoom in)and still have a good quality picture With either type of cameras all you need is to run them on and cat5 wire to get power and video. Sometimes you can also include audio but make sure you do violate the privacy laws.

They are on their own house network and not the network that I'm running the E1.31 on..different frequencies too. So far, no issues with interference but thanks for the advice from all of you

That bites.  I would be just as miffed if they stole a tree.   More because I have plenty of extra controllers but not trees.  Some of the mini trees people have up to 12 strings of LED's.  The cost of these would be the same as a controller.  I cable all my controllers and have 9+ cameras but my mini trees would be an easy target at the current time.

Put the cameras up, turn on plenty of lights and let people know that you have them.  The word will get out.

People here heard about the theft on Facebook and one person even offered a replacement tree...so very nice of that person! They are generally very upset and actively looking for whomever. Heaven help them if they get caught. I've got two cameras running now and lots of people watching out. Jan 1st, I start taking it down and putting it all away for the season.
