metallus2000 Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 I was wondering if you can hardwire lights to LOR. Reason is I am designing a home theater and would like to know if it's possible? (and safe!)
Steven Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 Yes, it's possible, and the safety depends on your installation. The NEC requires that electrical equipment is covered to prevent accidental contact, and that anything with a metal case must be grounded. Any splices must be in an approved box. If you were going to build an enclosure for the LOR controller, it would be safer to wire directly to the controller than to have the sockets inside the wall. 1
metallus2000 Posted April 10, 2014 Author Posted April 10, 2014 Thanks! I'll post pics when it's done.
bobschm Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 Most of our lights are not subject to code because they are considered temporary installations. Make it permanent and you may have to abide by all the local codes and permitting regulations. Check with the local authorities in your area.

But knowing and following the intent of the code makes it a safe installation.
viennaxmas Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 Keep in mind that LOR has two versions of the controllers. The Professional controllers do have UL approval.
bobschm Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 Following the intent of the code will make it safe, but not necessarily legal. In some locations, the installation may require an electrician to do the work. Even if your work is identical, it may not be legal. Always check, if you intend to install permanently. Or hide it well so no one sees it.
