When it goes on sale I want to purchace this opposed to the kit. I have neither touched a slodering gun nor seen any of those kind of parts before (I skimmed through the assembly manual). However the complete form with just needing some assembling with hand tools sounds like my forte. What all needs to be done?

You will just need to put the assembled board into the box and attach the power cords to the board. Really pretty easy, and you should be able to do it in an hour on your first attempt, less on subsequent controllers.
