I have what my show is going to be next year mapped out but I'm starting to think a 16 channel starter kit won't be enough. I haven't done this befor but I've watched so many videos and read so much stuff that I know what I want everything to do. But I'm starting to think 16 won't be enough.... What do I do? Ill post the picture again to see what ya think

If you can afford more, than go to 32, if not, stick with 16. Sounds like you will need the advanced license also cause you will grow each year and it costs less to get it in the beginning

Download the demo software and start from there. I think LOR offers a 32 channel starter kit. Sign up for the sales.

I think you plan looks like a lot more than 16 channels.

Do you already run a very large static display?

It's not really large but I do get people stopping to look. It would probably be the best o my area..

I already have the demo but I got bored with it because I can actually control the lights.

And if someone could fine the link to the 32 channel starter kit please send it my way. I can't seem to find it

I see around 48 channels...

I can see how you could use 16.

Buy as many controllers as budget/wife will allow.

Buy the advanced licence because you are going to need it.

This was my first year, I was planning on going with 16, but as time went on I realized I needed more to be happy. I stepped up to 64 channels (4 controllers) and was very happy. Now I am heading into the New Year looking at adding 2 more controllers for a total of 96 channels, and possibly some RGB (IF I finally get a promotion at work).

SO that being said, for next year, go for 4 controllers, (64 Channels) You won't regret it. But DO buy the advanced level of software its only $69 more if I got it off of the store right. That way WHEN (because you will) you need more controllers you'll be able to make that transition seamlessly.

Oh, and if no one has stated it yet, also you need to go to a local "MINI". I went to the NW CLAP(www.nwclap.org) and received a lot of great input.

I too, this was my first year. I started out with 32 channels but then started getting more and more ideas...ended up controlling 95 channels with 96 available. Next year, I'm using all 112 that I have available and will be adding a DC controller and ServoDog controller for some animation.

Well that's the thing I'm only 16 lol. No wife to deal with.. And the only thing I have to pay for is gas for the car and insurance. So any extra money I get paid after that can go straight to christmas lights lol :]

You are very close to my location. Wish you had come up to see the show and I would have been happy to show you everything I could in the setup.

I got 16 to start with and it wasn't not enough. ended up buying 2 more for my first year for a total of 48 channels for the first year... still wasn't enough after we got into it and the addiction took over....

I know but should I buy te started kit then add another controller? Or do they have 32 channel controller

Download the software here (run for free in demo mode--will activate later):

http://www.lightoram...twareSuite.html

Watch all of these:

and these:

Buy this starter kit:

And buy as many of these as you need:

Problem solved.

Yes, I'm one of two here. The other is the "Hodo" family home who has been doing this for several years and a line of cars nearly a mile long trying to see his display. This was my first year.

Also I'm not planning on buying the controller until sometime next year.. So should I go ahead and buy the basic software just to get going?

To be cost effective, here is my suggestions:

1) Download and use the demo software.

2) Once you have your controller, buy the advanced software license

3) Check Craig's list, these forums and ebay for bargains for your controllers and USB adaptor

4) If you can't find a deal there, wait for the Spring mad-grab sale as those prices are pretty tough to beat.

I personally was impatient and bought my first controller, USB and software in January, but since you have a lot of time, patience can save you a lot of money.

Unless you are going to have your lights hooked for 11 months or so, you will always be doing your sequencing without them hooked up
