Stingray
So I just discovered on my second board I assembled I put 8 of the Triac Opto isolators in backwards. I am going to turn them around but the question is are they damaged? I am one week from hoping to turn lights on and will overnight more in if they are damaged. Thanks for input! -klb-
Ouch. I can't remember if putting them in backwards will be a definite failure, or just a chance of one. But there is certainly a risk of damage unsoldering and turning them around. You can try putting in a helpdesk ticket, and they may send you a set...
Stingray
Thanks, I put in a ticket just in case. I got so confident when the first board worked I messed up the second one.
Stingray
LOR sent 8 new isolators soldered them in and board works. What a great company! Now wifey needs to figure out how to make 32 channels turn on 10,000 lights at the right time. Starting to think starting a week before halloween wasn't early enough! Max-Paul
Just for the academics. No even applying power will not damage the opto chips. Its the taking them back out is a real pain. I used to be real good at that. Maybe the lack of practice and eyes not as good as they where 15 or 20 yrs ago. I ended up cutting the leads and then desoldering them one at a time.
