Sinnamon Lights 2011 - Videos

Hi
In my 2011 display I have added blue LEDs to the mega-tree and a number of RGB modules to various fixtures. There are also dumb 30 LEDs/m RGB strips added to the roofline (away from the existing CCRs). I have also used 60Leds/m RGB strips to wall wash with the strips mounted on the backside of the roof battons. I am running updated versions of the songs Music Box Dancer & Chicken Dance (from 2010) together with 4 new songs and a new voice introduction. (Total time of approx 17min)

I have now uploaded videos of the 4 new songs for 2011 to YouTube:

Little Drummer Boy - Ray Connif

Dance of the Woodland Pixies (aka Sugar Plum Fairy) - Note footage of this should be included in the Australian Lifestyle Channel program "Christmas Light Spectacular" which first airs tonight Dec 4:

Aussie Jingle Bells - Dimmer Twins

and Last but by no means least - Wizards in Winter. NB - I just found out this has been BLOCKED on YouTube but I can still watch it ???
This is prooving very popular with the visitors.

While videos do get the message out, they really do not show the true colours and vibrancy of the lights. This can only be seen live.

Enjoy - Geoff

As last year, Fantastic job. Loved the way you used the spinners. VERY good job of inturpriting the music (not just flashing to the beat). One of the VERY best.

After I found that Wizards in Winter was blocked by YouTube, I uploaded to Vimeo and it can be found here:

Despite it being considered overdone by the lighting community, it is still one of the most popular with the visitors, most of whom have not heard it previously.

In most locations I have 5 colours of icicles cool white, warm white, blue, green & red together with a top line of either CCR or RGB strip, or string lights.

In Australia, the readily available icicles are limited to multi, white (C & W), and blue. To get green and red, I used strings and ziptied them into loops hanging down. (Also used this for cool white on the top line.) This gave me 6 blocks of icicles (equivalents) on the right hand end of the house which I could chase as large blocks.

The blue and warm white icicles are standard Australian icicles - 2 channel flasher sets. Each set has 2 adjacent drops on channel 1 then 2 drops on channel 2. To get them to chase, I zip tieds 2 sets together with a 1 drop offset. This results in 4 channels to control which gives a proper chase effect. Flasher units are discarded and channels are driven directly by DC boards.

Hope this helps.

Ok, gotta ask. there is one part of this video where it looks like you did icicle lights along the sidewalk but those and the one's on the roof line appear to jump to the music. how did you do that and do you care to share the sequence.

Camera used was the video mode on a Panasonic Lumix G2 fitted with 14-42 wide angle lens. Used some zoom but very little.

There was an earlier discussion on the forum on the "bouncing icicle effect" - don't know where it is now. I decided to try it and am very happy with the results in this and some of the other sequences. Basicly, for my icicles, I have a string of the same colour (or RGB strip) along the top of the icicles. I then use a fadeup then fade down for the icicles and the same fadeup/down pattern but out of phase for the light string above to produce the bouncing effect. To enhance the effect, I kept most of the adjacent lights off. See screen capture. At that location in WIW, I was bouncing a combination of cool white and blue. Because of my connections, there are several channels for the icicles or strings. The bouncing was happening at 4 levels - top roofline, sloping roofline, a lower set not very visible in the video, and along the fenceline.

wrt sharing the sequence, it is too big to upload to the forum, but if you pm an email address, I will forward it.

Regards Geoff
