A few newbie questions.

Hey all.

So far I have had great luck with you guys pointing me in the right direction.

So 2 questions:

1. Can someone please explain when and why I would use 'background' and 'foreground' effect? Also, exactly what can it do for me?

2. I see all these other type of hardware (i.e. ACx8 etc.). Can I use these other types of hardware with LOR hardware and software. If so, how and why?

as for the why - I'm guessing to help people who already have other devices, but since I don't, lets see is someone with more knowledge chimes in

An ACx8 is referring to a D-Light (LOR clone) hardware that operates on AC power and offers 8 channels. So is an ACx16, a DCx16, and probably a few others.

You should be able to use any controller that supports the LOR protocol. Well, now you should be able to support any controller that supports DMX as well since that is a standard protocol (LOR was a quasi proprietary protocol that was developed when computers couldn't handle the processing requirements for a huge number of DMZ channels and multiple DMX universes---no longer a limitation). There are a couple of other vendors out there that implemented LOR protocol in their stuff and I think that is what you are seeing.
