I do, and I also get my plugs from Home Depot on line in Oct or Nov. Will have to look up the paperwork but I think the numbers are ??-331 and ??-330. They only have them towards the end of the year I think.

SPT-3 is three wire cable.

CDI's SPT3 is not. It is SPT1 with UV protection in the insulation. Some places' SPT3 is 2 wire but with heavier insulation. And some place have 3 wire SPT3, which is usually listed as SPT3 18/3 rather than 18/2 (or 16/3 vs 16/2 depending on the wire gauge).

Then it is not SPT-3. That might be what they call it but it is not.

So..what then is it?...sounds like it is more a debate about semantics, and if one knows what they are getting, that is what matters.

The two links below are typical where a reference is made to 2 conductor SPT-3...

I was wrong.

I see that SPT cord comes in a variety of gauges. Does everyone use 18awg? I'm getting ready to buy my first spool ($39 for 250' at HD, too much I know, but I want it NOW) and don't want to make a mistake right out of the gate. I'm thinking of standardizing on SPT1/3 primarily because I need to run several cords in 1/2" conduit and extra insulation would make it harder. So the SPT1 from HD would be mostly for inside conduit, and I'll get a spool of SPT3 later for cords that will be exposed. Does this sound like a reasonable plan?

Actually Shanta...

If you do the math on the vendors sites for shipping you are getting the better deal sometimes. Really depends upon where you are from the vendor. Where I'm located, even paying $.156 pr foot for 1000' is still cheaper through HD than the vendors...

You can use the 18awg SPT1 for most anything you would need for the display and not have to worry much about it being out in the elements.

What end connecters would I use for this wire and would it be ok for the weather in CT?

SPT-1 connectors such as these here would work:

Should be fine in the weather--mine have been buried in at least a foot of snow here much of the winter this year.

curious if you found that to be cheaper than 6 rolls of 1000 feet from CDI, with discount?

Looking at the prices, looks like 12 cents a foot from skycraft, versus 14.4 cents a foot with CDI, with discount..

Not questioning your decision by any means..I was there with this decision several months ago...thinking shipping may more than make up for the savings..for me, with skycraft, I had to add in the governor's cut also...

Edit: just saw the quantity discount..yea, you may be better off going with skycraft...:D
