The amount of soldering you have to is minimal. Probably as minimal as is possible for the product to qualify as a kit. Trust me - rudimentary soldering skills is all you'll need and it takes less than 5 minutes. Just a couple connections, literally. Be careful and take your time and it will turn out great! And when you get all done you'll be able to hear it clearly from a little farther away than just across the street.

Excellent, thanks!

I assume there is a regulation of some sort which prevents these from entering the US assembled and ready to go?

PS... sorry to hijack this thread. :D

Exactly. So they remove one part and have you solder it and therefore they can call it a kit that you are assembling. I don't solder either, but this was a piece of cake. I (I have soldered only 2 times in my life before, and poorly at that!). No regrets on my part. I trusted what others here had said that it was ridiculously easy to "assemble" this unit (assemble makes it sound like more than it is). All EDM's require some assembly. Well, EDM took the least assembly required approach. Have to solder 1 single part, and it isn't even a tough connection since basically all you have to do is let the solder fill the holes where the part attaches (see page 6 of this manual for great pictures http://www.edmdesign.com/docs/EDM-TX-RDS.pdf )

Here is another post discussing assembly of an EDM:

I bought the 2.0 and it works fine for the distance I need. I have my computer in the garage and I get about a block away which is enough. My reception was very clear out to the street where the people will be.

I agree, I dont understand the bad rap this brand takes just based on my experience.

The gold version I had last year worked a full block away and the 2.0 is working fine, especially once I knew about the magic switch under the QC label in the battery compartment.

It will get a full test in 2 weeks or so when I fire up for Halloween.

Tell me more about this switch. I have not heard of this.
Thanks
Terry

This is on the black 2.0, in the battery compartment you will see a round white sticker, Carefully peal it off (or scrape it off) and there is a switch under it, move the switch in the direction of the side of the case closest to it. I read about this on this forum but I couldnt quickly find the link. I dont know how much a difference it makes in technical terms but I could see the difference in range.

If I can find the link I will post it or the person who posted it can chime in.

Here it is
