csf Posted January 31, 2010 Author Share Posted January 31, 2010 Where is the best place to buy the fiber optic cables?I have been looking at trinorthlighting.comWhat size cable is best to buy to put in a display? I am thinking of using mostly Glow cable and maybe some end point glow cable.Also is it possible to make a home made illuminator and what type of lights would you recommend to make it out of.My ideal idea is to build a custom RGB illuminator so I can make any color I want.So far my searches on line for using fiber optics in Christmas displays have led to nothing, well except for fiber optic Christmas tress. Don't mind the 1998 style website they apparently don't have a web developer working for them.As for the Illuminator, first you will need to build a box and to connect your cables to the box: http://www.fiberopticproducts.com/Connectors.htm Depends on the size of the cable you would like to use.The light on the other hand you have tons of options. I haven't gotten anything yet but I have been looking into several lighting options. One is here: http://www.besthongkong.com/index.php?cPath=9_89 I like this place and I have ordered many times from them for all my loose LEDs and all of my MR16's. You can also look into Lights from here : http://www.actionlighting.com/index.asp But I don't know how bright they are. At least with Best hong kong I know they are crazy bright. I will let you know as soon as I do, but from what it looks like I may not be getting to it for a few months. Probably wont get to building any thing until may-june when college lets out for the summer.
