C9 Spools

Recommended Posts

I have searched the forums with no luck ... I appologize for the newbiew question.

I am thinking of getting a 500' spool of C9 strings 12" apart. It is listed in the CDI pricing sale.

Comments .. I need about 400' ?!

What type of plugs are best to use to add top the ends. I was thinking of having a male end at the one end and having a female end at the other in case I ever want to expand it or should I cap it off at the far end.

Thank-you in advance !

Dave

actionlighting.com also has plugs of a slightly different style (which I prefer)

Can you point me to their alligator plugs? I spent 15 minutes over there this morning and can't find them. They have some stringer on sale for a pretty good price.

Can you buy individual "clip-on" (alligator) C9 sockets? I want to use them for the strobes, but don't need/want the spacing of the ones that come on a spool.

The fastest way I have found to locate the SPT2 plugs at action lighting, is to put SPT2 in the search field. Then flip back to typically page 3 of the results..

Male SPT2 green ends are here:

Female green SPT2 here:

C9 Green sockets here: (temporarily out of stock)

Personally, as far as ending a string of C9 cord, even factory spaced cord, I tend to go ahead and put on a female end, just to have a UL listed fitting on the end. Lots of other things work, like liquid electrical tape, silicone, or heat shrink tubing, but I give the female cord end the highest marks for speed of installation, and durability.

The few times that I do wind up doing one of the other methods, I will take the extra precaution of cutting one side at least 1/4 inch shorter than the other, so that if the added insulation fails, it is less likely to short on something, arc, and potentially start a fire.
