Audio/Video Synch.

I want to incorporate some animated video clips to be shown on a big screen
simultaneously with the light show. My original idea was to play a movie file (separate from but simultaneous with the audio) .. with obvious room for error in getting the two synched. Can I use a movie file and it's audio to run the sequence?
