Mark Currell Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Lights we get in Australia almost all have these controller boxes attached to them, which allows them to do up to 8 different functions. Will these lights work using the Light O Rama hardware? Is there something you need to do them to make them work? If so, what?Is it better not to purchase these lights, ad just with ones that are just static, and dont have the controller box associated with them?I have seen on the Planet Christmas Website, there latest newsletter where they talk about LED Horror stories - and one of the items refers to making sure that your LED's that you are going to purchase are dimmable........obviously people purchased non-dimmable LEDs and they fried! How do you determine whether the lighs are in fact "dimmable" so that you can use them with Light-O-Rama software/hardware?
Dale W Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 The lights with the control box are not designed to be dimmed. I do not think they are the best lights to use for LOR. That being said, if you used them for on/off, you should not have a problem with them. The problems with the LEDs do not affect the incandescent lights.
Mark Currell Posted January 10, 2009 Author Posted January 10, 2009 Many thanks for the response. Does that mean you can't use LEDs with LOR?
BryanLeggo Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 You can use LEDs. Unfortunately, it depends on the brand about how well they work.As for the Aussie multi-function lights, if that's REALLY all you can get thre you can consider cutting the controller off IF you can figure out first how they can be re-wired as normal lights, possible with multiple circuits. Buy one, hack it up, and then if you get it to work buy some more.
