s2 and vista

I suggest using Vista 32 bit version instead of the 64 bit version, especially if you have a lot of software that you will be reinstalling on the new PC. It probably is not going to make any difference with LOR, but you will probably find yourself needing to downloading new drivers and possibly even new versions of the software if you go to the 64-bit version.

on black friday when we started our shows Vista would shut the USB ports off after one or two cycles and the show along with it. i ended up switching everything to a w2k machine.

How do you know that it was Vista the caused the problem rather than some other application? I haven't had any issues with Vista at all.

there were no other programs running to interfere with it. after dealing with this "hiccup" for a couple of days i just swtched it all over to a win2k machine and it has run flawless ever since. last year we used LORI on an XP machine and it ran flawless as well so i really dont think its an LOR issue. its a Vista issue. for some reason it just shutdown the USB ports after cycling through the show once or twice. im not bashing Vista, im just stating a fact.

Basically, I hate Vista.

Everything in my house is XP.

But, your problem sounds like a power saver issue.

Go to control panel, click on power options and see what it,s doing.

Mountainwxman, I think you hit the nail on the head. This was a problem with a friend in Sacramento about a month ago who was trying to set up his display. After talking to him on the phone and walking him through shutting off the power save options to disable it, his problem when away.

This advice isn't gonig to help lesm as it seems he already went back to XP, but it might help others. On a similar note, anohter LOR user was using the wrong USB drivers on a Vista 64 bit version and caused the same problem with his LOR USB. Thus, this symptom could indicate more than one problem, yet it was easy to solve.... faster than swapping out the whole operating system.

Hi All,

I had the same problem on my new Dell that had Windows Vista already installed in it.

What happens in this situation is, after you computer is left untouched for a period of time, the computer goes into hybernation, or low power saving status.

by moving the mouse, the computer comes out of hybernation.

It is a power saving feature which is located in the "Control Panel" and then in "Power Options".

You can disable the hybernation option.

Or as Windows Vista calls it "When your computer sleeps" and you can set it to "Never".

There is also the option of when your display "Monitor" turns off.

You can also set it to "Never"

Hope this is more helpful

Hope every one has a Happy New Year.

yes Travis, i went through all of that and it still did not correct the problem. Vista does what it wants to do no matter what you do

Oh Vista bashers, you have such tempers. I have had LOR running on my Dell Vista laptop since the first Vista compatable LOR beta was released in February or March of 2007. I've used this laptop to run shows in my display when things with my show computer weren't right, and away from the house in places like our summer campsite with no problems at all. This OS has been public for almost two years. It's stable and has so many cool features. I've had it for 22 months and I still find neat little things about it that amaze me. I can't understand all the resistance to this system and all it's advances. Maybe it's just too much to comprehend?!? I can't be the only person alive who thinks Vista is far better than XP. Heck, I stopped using the XP desktop machine because it's so antiquated. It's really little more than a print server now...

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

I'm with ya there.

I love my Vista machine.

I haven't had any problems with it running my show except for changing the hybernations setting, but other than that, all is good here :D

I find myself liking vista more and more each day.

I like it better that XP by far.

IMO it is knowing how vista works and knowing its features, which puts XP to shame.

I agree also! I have no problems with vista. When friends at work bring in vista computers with a "problem" sad to say it is usually operator error.

But that said, I also liked XP and have it on one computer still. I can be quite the mad scientist with XP, but Im a little weary with vista.

First thing I tell all vista newbies: click the windows then run and type msconfig, then click on startup items.

DISABLE ALL!!!

And FYI, I have never had any virus protection software running in the background. Only do full system scans once in a while. As long as you are not downloading a lot of porn or really think you won a nigerian lottery, you are good to go! LOL!

I am happy with my vista laptop as well...

Though I think I may have found a bug in the S2 software. I can consistently crash the system when I change multiple network comm settings.
