ItsMeBobO Posted September 7 Author Posted September 7 Yesterday, City workers were seen pulling up signs in the neighborhood. I had no idea they would have authority to do this. There were multiple contractor signs which said Roofing experts and a sign saying we hang holiday lights. The city truck worker just threw them in the back in a stack. I did not see the removal but I was aware the signs were present on earlier dog walks which are no longer there. Maybe I was not paying attention, but I have never heard of such a thing. After some digging I found the prohibition in the city code. Other sections say city is required to give only 48 hours notice and city may charge for the expense of removing the sign and after 30 days the expense/fine will convert into a lien.
k6ccc Posted September 8 Posted September 8 Something similar is in most city codes, however it is seldom enforced unless there is enough complaints.

Florida instigated this quite some time ago, it came from all the political signs that were still standing months after elections. Now Florida sure DOES ENFORCE this. And they will fine you, even for a garage/yard sale sign on city/county or State property, including the easement directly in front of your house! My late parents got fined for 2 garage sale signs they had posted on a street corner that the city pulled up. I don't recall what the cost was but I heard my mother at the time had a few choice words for it.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Was she ever mad about that. But they did come by first, local LEO actually came by and warned my parents to remove the garage sale signs, but my late mother was stubborn and thought nothing would come if it, and they'd take them down after the sale was done. Didn't work out the way she planned it. So, in Florida, perhaps each area(county) might have different ways of handling it, but where I live, put up a sign on county/city or state owned property and you might get a nasty surprise in your mailbox. Now if you live on a Private road, not maintained by city/county or State, then they can't do anything about signs alongside the road. I live in a neighborhood where all the roads are private, but if you have a HOA or management company they can impose rules on where signs are permitted and not permitted.
