Color or Transition selection from Effect Samples window isn't working as before

Since version 6.2.8 and confirmed in 6.2.10, while using the sequencer, I am no longer able to select a color or transition from the Effects Samples Window to apply to the timing grid.  Am I missing something or has this process changed?  When I click on a color from the Effects Samples window. a window to edit the color opens instead.  However, I am able to access Motion Effects Builtin and apply them as needed.  The only way I have been able to apply a color or transition to a channel is using the Effect Menu and the Start/End menus at the top of the sequencer page.
