Bob Wallace
SAUF: Looks like for some RGB light strings, this is what happens when the current drops below a certain threshold (In my case because of running 50 ft of RGB wiring) Symptom: When running certain sequences, 1 port on the PIXIE 8 would have its lights get stuck at on/WHITE and would not change until power off. Things I tried Hardware Utility - would not affect string at all - power down required to turn it off. Upgraded firmware on Pixie 8 to 1.08 - same behavior Swapped ports around - same string would still get stuck Swapped out light string - new string at same position would still get stuck Check new string on same port with shorter wire - string works correctly I will rig up a remote 12V power near the string and put in a power injector. Will reply on this thread if it works. Main thing is I thought the lights would not work at all with insufficient current, but it looks like there are graduated symptoms. I guess the control chips need more power than the actual LED elements.
Solution Bob Wallace Posted December 16, 2022 Author Solution Share Posted December 16, 2022 Looks like that was the issue. Found a simple 12V 2 amp surplus A/C adapter and used a power injector and now the lights are behaving normally.
