Feature Request - Ability to turn off pencil in sequencer

When using the sequencer and selecting colors, etc.  from the effects window, sometimes the automatic pencil "turn-on" gets in the way when you really just want to use keyboard shortcuts.  I generally just hit "L" to turn it off, but how about a button someplace to cycle the pencil on/off as needed.
