Sequence taking 10+ minutes to load

The sequences that I use full video on won’t load and end up locking up the computer. I will change the FPS to 20 later but is there something else I can do to not have this happen? I have been using the show on demand feature and have been using regular saves on the files. Is there something I should be doing differently so they’ll load up faster? The computer is about 2 months old and is a middle of the road laptop and when I load them into the sequencer it’s usually a couple minutes before I can play them. Thanks in advance!
