Selection not happening.

S5 5.5.6   A little quirk that has just started for me and I am wondering if I have changed a setting on something somewhere.  In sequencer,  I select create, the appropriate effect I want under slope, and the appropriate thing I am doing under type.  Then when I go into the grid of my sequence and click a cell, or click and drag multiple cells,  nothing happens.  Nothing is inserted into the sequence.  If If I click a cell, or click and drag multiple cells a second time without changing any of the input selections, it then inserts what I want.  This is a new thing for me, and I don't know how to fix it.  It is darn irritating for sure.  I can say it doesn't matter if I am working with conventional A/C, dumb RGB, or the handful of pixels I have.  This will happen with any of the three.  It also does not happen every time, but enough to be a pain in the butt.  Any insight on how to fix this would be great!
