griswald
Hello, I'm running v5.3.6 Pro and am having a problem with an AVI file. It's the first time I've tried working with one, so the problem could certainly be something I did wrong. I downloaded a video from YouTube in .mp4 format and then converted it to .avi. When I try to insert it as a motion effect, I get an error "Unable to read frames from this file". Any help is greatly appreciated!
PhilMassey
Did you try the original mp4. I have tested mp4 with S5 before successfully. What are you using to do the conversion. AVI is a container format and can use many different codecs. There is either a problem with the codec or the file may be corrupt. Does the file play in Windows Media.

You can use MP4 files as the media file for a sequence, but the movie effect only supports AVI and WMV files. Try converting your video using VirtualDub. See this thread: There is a specific release of VirtualDub called AIO (all-in-one) that has a bunch of video codecs already built-in, so it is easier to install and configure, and can handle more file formats. http://www.videohelp.com/software/Virtualdub-AIO There is also a newer project with a 2020 release here - but I've haven't tried it yet: https://www.videohelp.com/software/VirtualDub2 Matt
