Putz Posted August 23, 2008 Posted August 23, 2008 First time LOR user. just got word that my 16 channel controler is on it's way. What type of lights do I buy for the greatest effect LED vs. the old C9's and what size? how far do you want to space them out on your eves 4"? Nobody in my area has anything like this so I want to set the Bar without blowing the bank. I think I'm just going with the pre sequinced music this year untill I get on to the programming.
Steven Posted August 23, 2008 Posted August 23, 2008 Your best effect is to mix light types. For example, on the eaves string both white icicle lights and blue LEDs. Put them on separate channels. Now you have the ability to change the look of your eaves instantly. The LOR "shimmer" effect looks much more impressive on an LED string.Be very careful about C7 and C9 LED replacements. Many brands can't be dimmed or shimmered.Last year (my first), I had a good response to my blue LEDs. But the effect was there because I could transition between some white C7 candlesticks and luminaries.
Cajun Cheesehead Posted August 23, 2008 Posted August 23, 2008 Another thing to watch carefully is power needs. I like the look of the old C9's but will stop using them this year. A 25 light string of the old C9's takes as much power as 450 mini lights. The link has a good table for figuring power needshttp://www.planetchristmas.com/FigurePower.htm
