Can only detect unit 1

We have 9 units, but only unit 1 is being detected.  Do you need to plug them in, in order?  Or is there just a communication issue from the first box where the computer is plugged into to all the others?

They can be in any order.  Check for a cable problem.

I found that if one of my units do not have power then it doesn't get detected. Hope this helps.

Are you using the hardware utility?  If so, make sure you max unit number is set to at least nine.

Silly question ....  in the hardware utility you did change each unit ID to be from 1 to 9 didn't you?   Hook up your first unit...HU find it?  Add another, refresh the HU, it should have found both. If so add the third.  Keep doing this until you find the first unit that isn't found, replaced that cat five cable.
