Do I Finally Understand Tracks?

In the songs I'm sequencing (LOR2) I've drawn separate animations for some of the various features - mega tree, arches, poles, smiley face, etc. It help me see more details in the animation, essentially zooming in on one feature, and also makes it easier for my eyes to have a more reasonable number of channels on the screen at any one time.

Using the beat wizard for some elements, the tapper for others, and .05 increments for the rest, I've discovered that when I try to combine these individual sequences into a "master" sequence, getting the timings to match is a nightmare.

Is that what tracks are for? Should I be creating an individual track for each of these separate items? If yes, how do I properly identify each group of channels as an individual track in the "master" sequence?

Does this make sense? Am I closer to enlightenment than I think or am I hopelessly lost in some kind of a Newbie quagmire?
