thebaronn Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 Hello! Well I finally got arount to taking down my lights today (and put up valentines lights) and during the recent storms here i had a small branch fall and of course it hit 6 strands of LEDs perfectly and cut them all in half. Now they sill work, but is it safe? And also if I were to cut one of the strands even shorter would that be ok?Thank you for your help!Eric
Texan78 Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 I would still use them if they work. If it were me I would put some shrink tubing on it then soilder it back together. Then put a nice tight layer of electrical tape over that and call it a day.
John Pidliskey Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 I don't have any of the new LED lights. If they work just as the standard minis, sure they will light, but you may notice the LEDS are brighter which will shorten their life.Even with LED's, they still draw a voltage drop per each LED in the string. When you start to remove segments, the remainder will operate brighter or above the recommended voltage which can actually "blow" an LED out.
