EmmienLightFan
Does anyone know the difference between FTDI DMX and open DMX? LOR and FPP allow DMX out the USB485 by setting it as an OpenDMX device, but I have been using it from a Pi running OLA as a FTDI DMX device, and it has been working fine. I am creating a video on how to use FTDI / OpenDMX dongles with OLA, as a E1.31/ArtNet to DMX bridge, and I just noticed this.
canadianchristmas
FTDI is the usb to serial IC chip, that converts the data coming from the usb into a RS485 or RS232 signal that dmx devices can understand. The FTDI chips are used in other usb to serial applications like on some arduino clones. The LOR dongles I think use FTDI chips, and the enttec open dmx and probably a lot of other generic dmx dongles. So in short open dmx and FTDI dmx mean basically the same thing. One side note for you though is that OLA is now becoming integrated with FPP and by running FPP in "bridge mode" you can do the exact same thing you are now doing in OLA.
