EmmienLightFan Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 I noticed Ray WU selling 5v dumb RGB strings http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/50pcs-DC5V-RGB-dump-color-12mm-led-string-IP68-rated/701799_1645466120.html What is the advantage (or disadvantage) of 5v RGB LEDs? They are the same price of a similar looking string, with the same wattage LED, with the added difficulty of voltage drop. All of my dumb RGB controllers, now that I have looked, can control 5v (It is the minimum of most of them) I also noticed that he misspelled dumb as dump on many of his products. Probably because as pixels get cheaper more and more dumb RGB strings will end up in the dump.
jerry72 Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 Main thing with 5 volt is power loss. You can easily run 100 nodes of 12 volt with out having to inject power, i think if i remember that numbers drops to like round 60 for 5 volt.
