They are the same price of a similar looking string, with the same wattage LED, with the added difficulty of voltage drop. All of my dumb RGB controllers, now that I have looked, can control 5v (It is the minimum of most of them) I also noticed that he misspelled dumb as dump on many of his products. You can easily run 100 nodes of 12 volt with out having to inject power, i think if i remember that numbers drops to like round 60 for 5 volt.
