Can I switch UNIT ID with Demo Software?

I am a Noob who bought some used LOR controllers this summer and am having trouble getting them to light up. I'm using a different sequencer than LOR and need to change the Unit ID. I don't seem to have any luck connecting to the controller despite having the USB dongle connected correctly and such. It keeps telling me it doesn't see the LOR controller. Seeing the table linked below makes it seem like I have to pay $50 (in order to get the Basic license) to just change the UNIT ID. Is that correct? If so, is there any workaround? :

There is no work around, you need the software to change the UnitID.

 

Good news, though, the demo version will do it.
