sequencing timing question

I am aware how to set and change timing grids. Is there a way to sequence without using the grids at all? What I mean by that is you just click on a solid line where you want the effect to start and drag it until you want it to stop or should i just set the grid to .01 and sequnce like that? I normally use .05.

You do not need the timing grid if you want that channel to do the same thing for the entire song... example... have it on.  If you want to do different things with the channel during the song, timing needs to be there.

Yes, except you need to have something in the timing(s) at either end of the fill range.
