mcha
Any issues with using an SPT1 vampire plug on 16 GA SPT2 wire? Is it just harder to get the cover to close with the larger wire, or am I asking for trouble down the road.
bobschm
I couldn't get the small plug to fit at all on the wire that was too big. The opposite is just as bad. Putting a big plug on a small wire may lead to it loosening up over time and becoming intermittent. Best to stick with the correct items for the wire. mcha
Everything I found online for SPT-2 was also for 18 Ga wire, not 16 Ga for the vampire plugs. The sale price is not worth the extra hassle and headaches. I'll go back to all SPT-1 wire and plugs. Thanks.
k6ccc
Don't mix. Use the proper plugs for the wire you use. Then to avoid mixing it up later, stick to whatever standard you use.
wmilkie
SPT2 has thicker insulation, so it make not make a good connection using it on a SPT1 plug and vice versa
