Pixel tree

Question: doing a 16x50 pixel tree. 4" spacing. If my math is correct that's 16'6". I'm using custom sequences being made from holiday sequences. So they have a lot of text graphics animation so on. Question is: is it better to do a 180 tree or should I build it flat in a tree shape. If 180 would I loose clarity of images on the sides. Also in videos of flat pixel trees it looks as if some strings are longer than others and makes that upside down v up at the star. But still holds the 50 pixel per string. Is it just the angle giving it the optical illusion

I did my first pixel tree in the 2014 season. In my case, I tried to line up all pixels at the top to insure they were all lined up perfectly all the way down. It turned out, that was a mistake because their sequences compensate for the center strings/strips, being higher than the sides. Also, I did a flat tree therefore maximum visibility of the animations but I was also using WS2811 nodes which provided the viewer's the ability to see them from different directions. These were all mounted on aluminum channel material which provided the structure.

This next season, I'll allow the channels to be higher in the middle and slope off on the sides just as their sequences were intended. They create them using SuperStar so use that as a guide in relation to the build of your tree.

If you are using purchased sequences most of them are set up with the bottom of the strip or string be level and the top should have a slight curve. If your going to do all your own sequences then you can do it either way. I used a lot of purchased sequences and they worked great when they were even at the bottom. I even had a slight curve at the top and straight across at the bottom and it looked great. I wanted the curve at the top to give it more of a pointed look.

thanks a lot for the input I completely understand.. I plan on using the pixel strips from holiday coro for the nodes to pop into. also was thinking about just using a pole 17' tall like a regular mega tree would use. the mount the superstar lights star to the top of it. then just pull the strips tight to get no sag and anchor to the ground.  I suppose these strips would work, as they would be perfectly even spaced throughtout the tree. just start at the bottom set where they need to be then run up into the star at the correct point and they should offset them selves correctly

That's pretty much my plan as well. But I bought my Strips from James on DIYC

It's his original product, that Dave copied

Ok thanks. I'm also trying to decide how big of a difference in clarity it is going 3" vs 4" I know it's a 4' height difference. But Id clarity really that much better

suprised since so many people have the flat free versions why someone hasn't made a Coro mega tree for your nodes to push into.

I have both a flat ccr tree and a 360 degree pixel tree, spiral effects and such look great on the  pixel tree but you can,t beat the ccr tree for animation and words

I went with 3 5/8" (15' tree - with 1 3/16" at the top and bottom)  I used aluminum tubing and the extra space lets me put rubber "foot" on the bottom of each pole to prevent head injuries.   Oh did I mention I suspend my tree from the peak of the roof?   I've got some video at http://www.christmasoutloud.com/videos.html  and Dave's Let it GO here: https://vimeo.com/1156896852013-11-11%2016.38.10.jpg

This one is a 360 Degree tree with 800 pixels.  I will be converting it to a 180 degree tree for this next season.  I built a take off of a Color Motions style tree.  It uses my Pixclips to hold bullet nose pixels on poly banding strap.  I also build the rolled aluminum base ring and top bracket.
