Pixel Tree Sequences

Recommended Posts

I spent all my time and energy building a pixel tree this year, and now it's getting close to show time and I'm starting to panic. It's actually not that bad, since I have the rest of the lights already done, but I need some quick stuff to throw on the pixel tree this year. Does anyone have some pixel tree stuff they would be willing to share with me? I have some of the favorite songs, including Wizards in Winter, David Foster's Carol of the Bells, Dance Party Jingle Bells, March of the Kings, Mannheim Steamroller's Deck the Halls.

I too could use a little help.  I have purchased a few and am willing to share the regular lor sequences I have and am not opposed to paying for a good pixel tree sequence. ( I don't think it would be fair to the programmer  to share the purchased sequences)   I waited way to long to learn to sequence this new tree and setup started to day, although I am hampered with an inner ear infection that is keeping me off the roof.  I plan to sequence at night and set up by day.  My wife says she will see me at light up on Thanksgiving!

Hi Steven, I'm in the same boat.  Mending a broken elbow right now, so about all I can do is try and do some sequences.

I am using Nutcracker a lot.  I know Sean has several of the songs you mention, already with timings to use from audacity.

Granted, you can't do some effects ala Superstar, but to get something done quickly; it works well.

Also, you can export your LOR sequence into Nutcracker, your LOR timings will then be in Nutcracker; create a model of your pixel tree.  Example: My tree is 24 ribbons 180 degree and 150 pixels per ribbon. Yes very dense. LOL

After I set up my channels, then I can create my effects for the pixel tree.  Now that I have the hang of things, it's not too difficult to setup.

Also, don't worry about the channel setup as far as your LOR stuff goes. If you are just going to copy the tree effects into LOR. NC just needs to know how many channels you have to create the effects on the model.

Example: ON my tree setup, I use 24 E.131 Universes at 450 channels. amount of my ribbon. You can use the full 512,, I just use 450 for simplicity.  Once that is setup, create your tree model.

One thing I have done. Get my timings for the tree in LOR. Then open up that LOR file in NC. You could also do so in Audacity You'll have your timings there for the tree, then the rest is up to your imagination. :-)

Sean makes great tutorial videos on vimeo, that are quite helpful.   Nutcracker has a random sequence thing. After you creatre your model, then just hit the random button. It will create some cool effects for your pixel tree.

Save the ones you want, and change/edit others.   When done, you can even see the tree in the preview tab.   After you get everything like you want it.   Then you can export your pixel tree model as a LOR lcb file.

Paste into your pixel tree channels.  Caution: LOR can get chokey with a lot of RGB channels, if you have the 4GB thing installed, that helps.

If you try out Nutcracker, you'll have a little sneak peak at what the LOR stuff will most likely do as well.

If you are familiar with labeling in audacity, all the better. If not, Sean has some good tutorials on marking up songs with audacity.   He also has a lot already done in Nutcracker when you install the program.

It's not that difficult to setup if you give it try.

Best of Luck. Hope in any case, you can accomplish your goal.

Best,

David

I'm currently building a pixel tree, so I'm curious about your  trees construction technique's

what are you using to support the pixels; wire, emt, strapping, etc

are you using round bulbs or the square or ?

How tall are the trees

Any details would be helpful

thanks

I shared a couple sequences in a different post for my 180 degree CCP tree.  It's 24x25 pixels.

http://forums.lightorama.com/index.php?/topic/33990-some-simple-sequences-that-include-a-ccp-180-degree-megatree/

One of the sequences is probably good for both 180 and 360 trees, but the other will likely only look good on a 180 degree CCP.

I based my tree on Ryan's design, but I modified his top connector to allow the branches to be turned (towards the viewer).

I used Ryan's design, which is 1/2" EMT. I used wire ties to attach each pixel to the EMT branch.

I use square pixels from Seasonal Entertainment. They look good, and they all worked when they first went live. After a week, I seem to have some failures, which I'll replace this weekend.

How tall are the trees

I based my tree on the length of the pixel string. Each branch is 17.5 feet long, but they have a stiff wire in the bottom to adjust the length because my yard slopes. I don't remember the length of the center pole. I also have a 6-RGB-channel star on top, which adds about 2 feet.
