Max-Paul
IF you are not doing this. Just a little tip I learned in my first year. Always plug your USB to RS-485 adapter into the same USB port on your computer. Changing which USB port each time will change the serial port number. Example if you use a USB port on the front top and then go to the front bottom connector or Left on your laptop and then go to one on the right side. You might see it coming up as serial port 3 one time and then port 4 the next time. Dont know if this is the problem your experiencing or something else. But it was one I had the first year.
Don
The only times you need to use the LOR Hardware Utility are when 1) Changing the default COM port - As Max-Paul mentioned. (though this can be done in the LOR Network utility)2) Upgrading firmware on LOR products3) Testing Channels on a device4) Setting the ID of the device. Note: If using a 1602 series, you don't use the HWU)5) Loading standalone (animation) sequence on the "D" series controllers.6) Testing/Verifying Inputs/Triggers7) Lighting Curves (G3 devices.)
kbowman
Thanks ill play with it and see what I can do
Steven
4) Setting the ID of the device. Note: If using a 1602 series, you don't use the HWU) That can be a point of confusion. You can use the hardware utility to set the ID of a LOR controller with ID switches like the 1602 series, and it will override the switch settings until you power cycle the controller, at which point the ID will change back to the switch settings.
RockinScott
I was having this problem the other day. My LOR controller was defaulting to Com Port 7. I went to Device Manager and changed the com port to 8 and then the LOR software seemed to find my controller thereafter.

jerrymac
This 4th holiday I ran a setup each day for 2 weeks. I unplugged the power to the controllers during the day. To my surprise each day I plugged in the cords that the controllers were plugged into (12 gauge), I had to start the hardware controller and refresh the controller ID search (configure unit ID download test). I have been using these controllers for 4 years and never before had to do this. Once refreshed all worked fine, without the refresh there was NO output to the controllers (V 3.11.2 software).
