AnnouncerJoe
Hi there! My wife and I would like to start animated lighting for next year and would like to start with a small setup/single feature. We saw an animated Christmas tree that we think would be a great starting point, however the owner will not share any information about his setup. I can SWEAR it's an LOR product/design. Could someone please look at this video and help identify what LOR products we would need to purchase in order to have this tree? Thanks a LOT! I really appreciate any help.JoeHere's a video of the Christmas tree (the large one with the star on top):
Grinch
Looks like 12 CCR's and a 6 channel star - You can find it here .....http://store.lightorama.com/cocori.html for the ribbons. The star is homemade or purchased and run on a LOR controller ... There are several controllers to choose from at LOR so consider your budget and your possible expansions in the future. k6ccc
Looks like a "tree" made up of 12 Cosmic Color Ribbons. Start here: http://www1.lightorama.com/cosmic-color-ribbons/The next stop is: http://www.superstarlights.com/ That's the guy who wrote the software that makes programming those a lot easier (still has a large learning curve). Those are very cool, but for a person starting off, there is a lot of effort to sequence them - and the dollar investment is kinda high. There are lots of those around in various configurations. Now there are ways to do that for less bucks than the CCRs, but it takes more knowledge to do it the Do-It-Yourself way. Lots of us have however - including me. Start the learning process now! k6ccc
Argh - no edit. The link for SuperstarLights got mixed up with what was supposed to be the next sentence (not sure why). Let me try that again... http://www.superstarlights.com/ The next sentence was supposed to be: That is the guy who wrote the SuperStar software that makes sequencing these a lot easier (but there still is a steep learning curve). oilmoney
Here is an exact tree that you are asking about, 12 CCR's and the 6ch star. I built mine using a treated 2x4 wood frame and I supported the ribbons with metal strapping and zip ties. When I take it down this year I plan to cut it half just to make transportation and storage of it easier. I think it's best to store with the ribbons in place and that way there's less chance of anything happening to them, they're so fragile. Be warned though, there's lots of posts on this forum of people's breaking! it took me a day to build and get all the ribbons wired up and it took a few hours to build the star. I purchased 4 pre-sequnced songs off the superstar website and people definately love the tree the most. Due to the fact that I built this display on short notice my sequencing kinda sucks but next year I'll be more prepared....
jonnyci
What's the deal with the homeowner? It's not like he's got some huge Christmas Lighting Military Secret. WTF?
indi
I'm with "jonnyci" on this one. I can't imagine not answering a few questions or helping somebody that wants to get started in this hobby.
