msturtz
For my "Tune radio to..." sign, I have a cheap-o coroplast on wire frame sign with block lettering, and I light it with a spot light on the ground. It works, but it isn't great. Anybody have other ideas on how to build a sign? I'm thinking a shadow-box of some kind -- I've seen it done with rope-lights and I find them hard to read. -Matt-
caniac
I went to holiday coro earlier this year and got a lighted sign that they sell, will tie it into the controller.
a31ford
He,he,he ! This is the "project of the week for me", I've been looking at jumbo red LEDS (NOT x-mas, rather "discrete LEDS" with only two short pins out the back). I'm swinging toward a hard wired sign where I can use a DC controller to run each letter (or word). I agree with your shadow box thing, as the sign will face north, and the display will be behind it, so the background of the shadow box will work well to highlight the words being displayed. Because of the size of the area (about 2 acres) we are going to run 2 signs, one at each end of the road in front of our property. this is the one I'm looking at, they are $ 0.17 ea.http://www.digikey.ca/product-detail/en/C503B-RAN-CY0B0AA1/C503B-RAN-CY0B0AA1-ND/1922926 Greg Edited August 25, 2013 by a31ford
LORi P
I went really easy. A couple of years ago in the fall, Shindigz had a sale on banners for $8http://www.shindigz.com/party/rejoice-and-be-glad-personalized-banner/pgp/b1461 I got one printed with my display info on it. And I got another blank one and put silver reflective letters on it:http://doityourselflettering.com/info.htm I really like the one with the reflective lettering. Shine a $10 spot light from Big Lots on it and it 'pops' 200 ft away.
Dave Batzdorf
If you use white plexiglass (or clear paint white on the laminated side) and have your writing on the street side , back light with you shadow box works extremely well. Mine is back light with LEDs. I have my donation sign spot lighted. Edited August 26, 2013 by Dave Batzdorf
