Tips, Tricks and What To Do With Leftovers

Do you have junk strings, cut off ends of light strings to splice them together, or cut off plugs on extention cords to make dongles for your controllers? Don't throw your ends away, repurpose them and make snubbers. Here's a very easy and cheap method to make snubbers. What are snubbers you ask? They are resistor loads used to for led lights that have fading issues. Do a search on snubbers for more info.

First place an order from Mouser.com. Mouser Part# 660-MOS1CT52R473J. They are 1W 47K metal oxide resistors. Order at least a hundred, they are cheap and make the order worth it.

Next you are going to solder the resistor across the the two wires of your plug. Cut one wire shorter than the other and solder as shown: http://i329.photobucket.com/albums/l376/scubado65/005.jpg

Next add heat shrink tubing over it leaving some extra off the end. Get the end nice and hot and then clamp it with pliers to seal the end. You can do this on extension cord plugs, light string plugs or even on the end of your last light in line light string.

When running extension cords in the yard, or plugging your strings in and are a few inches short? Got any male and female plugs laying around. Be sure to have lots of red butt connectors and a quality crimper in your arsonal and join ends together to make stubby extension cords: http://i329.photobucket.com/albums/l376/scubado65/006.jpg Just be awake when you make these or you'll end up with something like this: http://i329.photobucket.com/albums/l376/scubado65/036.jpg
