Deborah Bode Posted October 23, 2012 Posted October 23, 2012 Hi, all!We participate in a parade of lights each year. Our entry is a 1931 flat bed truck. We would love to sync our lights with music but we have to use power inverters to run our lights. Can we also run the light controllers using a laptop and power inverters? The parade lasts about an hour to an hour and a half. We use LED's and have never even come close to draining the battery on the inverter. Thanks for any info and suggestions you might have!Deb
Max-Paul Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 The controllers are going to need a good clean inverter. LEDs in themselves dont care if the AC coming out of the inverter is dirty. And the laptops might have enough filtering that make them immune to any dirty signal. Worse that is going to happen is that the controllers will not fade and shimmer properly. They will add to the load on the inverters some, but I do not have that info at this time. But on the other hand if the lights are blinking, they will put less load on the batteries.
Steven Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 Think about some dumb 12v RGB strips and a DC controller. The strips give a more "automotive" look, and then you don't need an inverter or a power supply.
